We are looking for a Senior Construction Engineer; applicants must have a minimum of 10 years experience in heavy bridge construction means and methods. They should be able to demonstrate leadership skills and possess an outgoing personality. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of bridge/heavy civil construction, including erection techniques, rigging, cranes, jacking operations, and temporary works.

Duties:

  • Confer with clients and other members of the engineering team and conduct research in support of project requirements.

  • Plan and design for the construction of major civil projects such as buildings, bridges, dams, and facades.

  • Develop construction specifications and procedures.

  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate building and construction materials.

  • Interpret, review, and approve survey and civil design work.

  • Conduct field services for civil works.

  • Ensure construction plans meet the guidelines and specifications of building codes and other regulations.

  • Establish and monitor construction work schedules.

  • Prepare contract documents and review and evaluate tenders for construction projects

  • Supervise technicians, technologists and other engineers and review and approve approved designs, calculations, structural drawings, and cost estimates.

Requirements:  

  • 10+ years of experience in construction engineering and heavy bridge construction means and methods. 

  • A BSc in Civil or Structural Engineering (or similar) preferably with a chartership in a professional body such as ICE or IStrucE, able to obtain a Licensed

  • Professional Engineer status in BC. Exemplary leadership skills, including ardent team-building capabilities. 

  • Steel Bridge and Industrial construction experience is essential. 

  • Advanced knowledge of crane/lifting operations and rigging. 

  • Site experience working with the structural ironworker trade. 

  • Excellent communication skills for internal and external clients (oral, written, and presentations). 

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Physical Demands / Work Environment: 

Work is performed in a combination of standard office, field office, construction site, and hybrid / home environment. KWH fosters a work environment that provides opportunities to grow.

What We Offer: 

  • Annual Salary $120,000 to $150,000 based on experience and location.

Responsibilities:

  • As an active member of the Management Team, you will lead the estimating and pre-construction process on projects in Canada.

  • Responsible for all aspects of estimating and pre-construction process for projects including pre-estimate meetings, site visits, kick off meetings, and estimate archiving.

  • Conduct a detailed analysis of the contract documents and specifications, to determine overall project requirements and identify any associated risks.

  • Complete a full quantity take-off of all labor, equipment, and materials required to complete the project as per contract drawing and specifications.

  • Works autonomously and provides leadership, coaching and mentoring to maximize efficiency and productivity of those working with you on estimates.

  • Ensure project and Company safety standards and environmental programs are adhered to within estimates.

  • Manage the post-estimate / pre-construction efforts on estimated projects until completing an internal hand-over to Operations.

  • Maintain current contacts, and development new contacts, in the construction industry with a view to sourcing new steel erection opportunities in British Columbia and other Canadian markets.

  • Be an ambassador of the Company both internally and externally while liaising with Clients, Owners, and Unions.

  • Mentor, coach, and supervise Field Engineers / Engineers In Training and junior Estimators.

  • Proactively seek new business opportunities through relationships. KWH is currently looking to expand operations within Canada and the United States.

Requirements:  

  • 5-10 years of construction estimating experience, preferably including structural steel installation, including leading estimates of $1-10MM.

  • Steel Bridge and Industrial construction experience is advantageous.

  • Degree in Civil or Construction Engineering is advantageous, but not required.

  • Structural Steel erection experience is preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills for internal and external clients (oral, written, and presentations).

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Physical Demands / Work Environment: 

  • Work is performed in a combination standard office and hybrid / home environment. KWH is willing to work with all employees on a work environment that allows them to excel.

  • Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 55 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and extreme noise when conducting site visits.
