Our Projects

Bridge Construction

KWH Constructors has the experience to erect the most complex of bridge structures. Whether it's railway or road, steel box, girder or truss, cantilevered, suspension or cable-stayed, conventional or launch method, our team has the bridge erection knowledge and experience. KWH expertise covers:

  • Erection by use of cableway, specialized gantries, heavy lift cranes and waterborne cranes
  • Erection over rough, inaccessible or environmentally sensitive terrain
  • Erection of pre-cast segmental and pre-stressed girder concrete bridges
  • Pedestrian bridges
  • Heavy jacking of bridges
  • Pipeline bridges

Bridge Seismic Retrofits

Recent developments in seismic standards and increased importance of some structures to survive more severe earthquakes have led to the process of seismic retrofitting. Older bridges and structures are usually designed to acceptable codes and standards of their times, without provision for extra strengthening. In many cases, seismic retrofitting can be very complex and inconvenient. KWH works closely with clients to ensure that retrofitting procedures and work are carried out with high safety standards while properly balancing impact to existing usage and cost savings.

Structural Steel Construction

KWH Constructors also erects and installs other structures besides bridges. Complicated and unique installations can all be accomplished by our highly experienced field crews with the technical backing of our construction engineers. Structure functionality, construction loading and structurally sensitive areas and procedures are analyzed and accounted for in every project. Detailed erection plans are developed for each project to ensure crew safety, performance of new and existing structures and work efficiency.

Structural steel retrofitting for offices/restaurants often requires steel framing re-configuration. KWH has provided many commercial facilities with our supply and install services. Maneuvering heavy, large steel beams, stairs and columns within an existing space require ingenuity and skill.

Our engineering department provide designs for safe temporary lifting methods and will work with the engineer-of-record to develop effective constructible alternates and time saving sequence.

Heritage Façade Shoring

KWH Constructors offer very specialized design/build façade shoring to support exterior walls of heritage structures that need to remain in place during the construction of new developments behind them. We can design and install/remove the shoring together with design and installation of the piling and footings on the outside perimeter. We have developed special clamping supports and parapet brackets that work efficiently to protect delicate features.

Bulk Materials & Maintenance

New Construction

As in structural steel buildings and bridges, KWH has experience upgrading or erecting new steel structures. KWH also has the technical backing to install the materials handling machinery to the required tolerances that ensure efficiency and longevity of the machinery and equipment.

Maintenance

KWH Constructors provide repair, refurbishment and shutdown work for port and material handling facilities. We have expert crews of ironworkers, electricians and machinists who are fully supported by our own in-house engineers. Shut-down repairs are professionally undertaken to minimize productivity downtime.

Emergency Repair Services

KWH provides emergency repairs, support and salvage for many unfortunate accidents that can occur at industrial terminals. Our on-call staff can arrange to be on-site, fully equipped on very short notice. Our engineering department is available to advise on repair, dismantle or demolition procedures with safety and efficiency.

Mass Timber

Mass Timber has now become a mainstream construction material in North America. It was for many years just a niche product. KWH Constructors recognised the growing popularity early on during the Mass Timber transformation. The experience that KWH has built up in two decades of installing systems of timber and steel together has provided a wealth of knowledge. Our engineering office provides stability calculations and means and methods for temporary support and safe lifting throughout the project. Careful handling of structural wood to prevent any damage while picking and placing is carefully dealt with. Having the capability to integrate the steel and wood erection in one operation provides the most efficient and safe way to optimize the project schedule for the client.

The nature of the work for mass timber i.e. (weight calculations, rigging requirements, rigging practices for heavy lifts, critical lift plans, strategic placement of mass timber for safe installation and in coordination with steel erection, bracing, plumbing, surveying, etc.) is all within the scope and professional practice of KWH's team of ironworkers.
