Project Description

KWH Constructors played a critical role in the deep excavation support system for the construction of the iconic Vancouver House Building high-rise. Working within the constraints of a dense urban environment and an excavation reaching approximately 28.15 meters (92.5’) in depth, KWH supplied and installed a complex system of large-diameter pipe struts and structural walers to maintain excavation stability and ensure safe progression of the works.

The temporary support System, engineered by KWH’s subsidiary, Somerset Engineering, was designed to resist significant lateral earth and hydrostatic pressures while accommodating the unique geometry of the site. KWH’s scope included the precise installation of heavy pipe struts at multiple elevations, forming a robust bracing system tied into the perimeter shoring walls. The integration of structural walers allowed for load distribution and provided critical access and working platforms throughout the excavation stages.

Execution required careful coordination with ongoing excavation activities, tight tolerances, and sequencing to maintain structural integrity at all times. KWH utilized specialized lifting strategies and equipment to safely maneuver and install the large structural members within the confined site.
