West Davis Corridor — KWH Constructors

West Davis Corridor — Girder Erection

Location

Davis County, Utah

Project Description

The West Davis Corridor is a major new highway project in Davis County, Utah, designed to relieve congestion along the Wasatch Front by providing a new north-south transportation corridor serving communities west of Interstate 15. As part of this large-scale civil infrastructure program, KWH Constructors was engaged to carry out the steel plate girder erection for multiple bridge structures spanning active roadways and rail corridors along the alignment.

The scope required the erection of large steel plate girders — each spanning hundreds of feet — using heavy crawler cranes operating in tight corridors adjacent to live traffic. KWH's ironworking crews managed the rigging, placement, and bolting of multi-girder bridge spans, working within strict traffic control windows and maintaining precise alignment tolerances throughout. The complexity of the work was compounded by winter conditions and the need to coordinate lifts over active highway lanes.

KWH provided site engineering, iron working crews, and field supervision for the girder erection program, ensuring each span was safely set and structurally secured in advance of concrete deck construction.
