Washington State Convention Center Addition — KWH Constructors

Washington State Convention Center Addition

Location

Seattle, Washington

Project Description

KWH supplied and installed 1,000 tons of structural steel for the Lower Podium at the Washington State Convention Center Addition in downtown Seattle, building the structure that would serve as the base for the future W1000 office tower.

To do this, KWH managed the receipt and inspection of structural steel fabricated years prior per an earlier design of the building, then managed the redetailing and refabrication of the steel to meet the current design. KWH designed crane supports and temporary shoring, then erected the two levels of steel and decking to meet an accelerated schedule in adverse winter conditions.

KWH also supported other phases of the Washington State Convention Center Addition project by installing miscellaneous steel to support the curtain wall and architectural features in the main building. KWH began work on this project in 2021 and completed its scope in 2023.
